FIGHTING FOR A SUSTAINABLE

FUTURE FOR ALL NEW YORKERS

Investing in environmental resiliency and sustainability today is key to making sure that New York City has a future that everyone can look forward to. To prevent the worst impacts of the climate emergency, we must start taking action now. Preparing for a greener future must be a priority for today’s leaders.

As a City Council Member, I will make sure our city is ready for the decades ahead by:

  • Protecting our invaluable public parks and green spaces from private developers.

  • Advocating for publicly owned and democratically controlled energy production.

  • Fighting for full city control of the subways and fully funding the MTA capital plan and reducing or eliminating fares. Strong transportation infrastructure is key to a sustainable future for our city as it keeps cars off the road.

  • Guaranteeing low-carbon public transportation as a right.

  • Building more transit-oriented infrastructure like bike and bus lanes.

  • Reducing the city vehicle fleet by 25% with a particular eye to the NYPD’s fleet.

  • Achieving the City’s goal of zero waste by 2030 by partnering with nonprofits to restore organics collection.

  • Decreasing the carbon footprint of existing buildings through retrofits with priority for NYCHA.

  • Centering and working with front-line, working-class communities of color as we develop and build green infrastructure and funding the support needed to make sure community members can get the green jobs this development will create.

  • Enacting a moratorium on all new fossil fuel infrastructure.

  • Divesting city pension funds from fossil fuels industries.

  • Ensuring waterfronts are put to use as accessible public spaces and floodwater catchments, rather than development parcels for private real estate.
