CREATING AN INCLUSIVE CITY FOR ALL

Our city must be a place where everyone, regardless of race, gender identity, or sexual orientation, can live openly and freely free of discrimination and violence. Diversity is what makes New York strong, and equality, inclusion, and safety from acts of hate must be guaranteed to all New Yorkers.

As a City Council Member, I will work to make New York inclusive, equitable, and safe for everyone by:

  • Creating a special Council Committee to repeal all walking while trans laws and any other laws that exclude trans women.

  • Prioritizing providing medical care for trans people.

  • Devoting more resources to investigations of workplace harassment and discrimination, including investigations of employers reputed to pay female employees less, and those who do not accommodate the female workers' needs for more flexible schedules.

  • Increasing diversity and equity requirements for any company contracting with the city and making relevant records publicly available.

  • Funding free preschool, childcare, and parental leave.

  • Providing a free and robust social support program to victims of sexual violence instead of directing them through byzantine, corrupt, and carceral police and prosecutorial systems.

  • Ending "religious exemptions" to bans on discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • Decriminalizing sex work.

  • Increasing outreach and increasing LGBTQIAPK participation in organizations like community boards.

  • Investing in enforcement against discrimination based on personal identity in housing, adoption, fostering, and in the workplace.
