INVESTING IN HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES

Especially in the wake of COVID-19, we must dramatically increase the capacity to provide medical care to all New Yorkers and invest in programs that promote healthier communities. A healthier city is one with more hospital beds, public hospital facilities, and public health programs, and one that can fully respond to public health crises.

As a City Council Member, I will fight for a healthier New York by:

  • Supporting a universal single-payer healthcare system that includes comprehensive services and working with community organizers to spread the word about this program and where services are available.

  • Guaranteeing access to reproductive care by making it free for everyone.

  • Opening safe injection sites in areas that need them.

  • Opposing the expansion of policing and incarceration in NYC hospitals, including the currently proposed jail beds.

  • Funding public hospitals and community health centers and preventing the closure of any of these institutions.

  • Keeping ICE out of hospitals so that getting medical care is safe regardless of medical status.

  • Promoting mutual aid programs like community fridges that provide nutrition and support while knitting the community together.
